Bears decision on Fields HEATING UP

With 1 game left in the season, the Chicago Bears front office will evaluate the entire team next week. Justin Fields future included.

General Manager Ryan Poles will, in his own word, “Take a step back” and evaluate Justin Fields season, his entire career, and his potential fit in the Bears future. Along with Head Coach Matt Eberflus, and well, everyone else thats operating within his Chicago Bears.

Before I dive into all the talk coming out about Fields future and the value of trading the #1 pick (And its JUICY) I want to put a spotlight on Ryan Poles ability to draft. Rookie Cornerback Tyrique Stevenson was named NFC Player Of The Week today

This is just a massive stamp on Ryan Poles 2 consecutive strong draft classes. This is important to note, that I along with most of Bears fans have massive trust in whatever Ryan Poles decides to do this upcoming offseason.

By the way, the Bears used the 2nd round pick from the Carolina Panthers to trade up to get Tyrique Stevenson. He has been an underrated part of last years haul.

With that out of the way, Jeremy Fowler reports something that got me EXCITED.

People around the league are suspecting that the Bears can get MORE than the Bryce Young package last year, even from teams picking in the top 5! This is absolutely incredible

DJ Moore is a star, having a career year

Tyrique Stevenson is trending towards being a near elite ball hawk (Thanks to the improved pass rush a la Montez Sweat).

Darnell Wright has been the best Rookie Lineman all year

The Panthers gifted us the #1 Overall pick, AND we have their 2025 2nd round pick.

You mean to tell me, the Bears can get a trade BETTER than this, while STILL picking within the top 5?? This is just rumors for now, but if it holds true, and the Bears can walk away with the best WR Prospect of this generation while ALSO netting an extra 1st round pick (or 2) plus more?

SIGN ME UP RIGHT NOW!

A move like this, to me, is 100% an absolute NO BRAINER. The Bears are already close to being a playoff team as of recent. Pull off a massive move like this and they are legitimate contenders to win the NFC North and go on a deep playoff run the second week 1 of the 2024 season kicks off.

There is a caveat: The Bears must believe in Justin Fields being THE guy.

Caleb Williams is an elite QB Prospect. If the Bears do choose to take him at pick #1, then it is worth mentioning that he would be in one of the best situations any Rookie QB Drafted #1 overall could ever be in.

The Bears would still have their own 1st round pick to add to the team, and have some extra picks via Justin Fields trade, plus plenty cap space to fill holes via free agency.

Remember earlier I talked highly of Ryan Poles ability to draft. Should the Bears take Caleb Williams, I have no doubt it will work out IN THE LONG RUN. I am in no way an “Anti-Caleb Williams” guy. The kid is TALENTED.

But not only do the Bears, in my opinion, already have a talented QB they should build around anyways, but Caleb Williams is the victim of what I call the “Draft Paradox”

One may argue:
“If Caleb Williams is worth that much, why wouldn’t the Bears just draft him?”

Fair question. Ask the Panthers if Bryce Young was worth everything they gave up for him?

Or better yet, ask the 49ers, who traded 3 first round picks to draft Trey Lance, only to trade him away for a 4th round pick 2 years later.

The “Draft Paradox” is when an NFL Draft Pick, in and of itself, is worth more than the actual player being drafted with the pick.

Is Caleb Williams “Worth” all of that? Or is the perceived value of the #1 pick “Worth” all of that? Its absolutely crazy how inflated the price of draft picks have become, and RARELY do massive trades ever work out for the team giving up a bunch of first round picks and players. Broncos gave up HOW MUCH for Russell Wilson? Browns gave up HOW MUCH for Deshaun Watson? How’d that work out for them?

History says you 100% take the haul to trade down.

Its hard to go wrong with the #1 pick, but like I said, and will continue to say:
Trading down for another massive haul and building an ELITE, Championship ready roster around Justin Fields in 2024 is a no brainer to me.

It’s what most Bears fans want to happen, and it’s likely what Ryan Poles and company will do.

But, whatever happens, even if its not what we want to happen, Ryan Poles has earned the trust to make the best decisions for the Chicago Bears moving forward.
