Poles & Flus BLAST Luke Getsy Indirectly

Today, the Chicago Bears fired Offensive Coordinator Luke Getsy and a few of his staff members. This was pretty much expected, but the question was if Matt Eberflus had his job secured or not.

It was announced that Eberflus was staying shortly after.

Ryan Poles, Matt Eberflus and Kevin Warren all had a press conference about an hour before this is being typed, and I am actually kind of stunned.

Ryan and Matt both put a lot of emphasis on “Not putting your players, your Quarterback in the best position”. They emphasized that the offensive coordinator needs to adjust to what the defense is doing, in the week of preparation leading up to a game AND in the middle of the game itself.

Repeating this multiple times, indirectly saying thats what Luke Getsy failed to do.

I am shocked because over the past two years, both Poles and Eberflus have spoken extremely highly of Luke Getsy as a man. They spoke nothing but confidence about him, and now that he is fired, they seem to have a lot of back handed shots at his work this year.

Not only that, but the entire conference, they did not even say Getsys name nor wish him well (Unless I missed it, the Bears live stream did keep freezing and cutting in and out, which is just too ironic if you ask me)

Matt Eberflus’s defense gave up many leads in the 4th quarter, so to put all of the blame on Getsy without taking any accountability on the actual head coach of the team is quite interesting to me.

Ryan Poles even brought up how other teams fired coaches earlier in the season, and seemed to pick things up as the season went along.

So why not fire Getsy earlier, then?

I can’t answer that question, but he’s gone, now.

Eberflus remains the Bears head coach mainly due to how well he has kept the locker room together during the ups and downs this season. Ryan Poles seems adamant that that matters above all. Theres plenty of reasons we could argue Flus should have been fired, but he will be the Bears head coach in 2024. We will now have to wait and see who is hired as Offensive Coordinator, and if 2024 will be the year Matt Eberflus leads a playoff team.

The conference was long. They both praised the players for the season, blah blah.

The Big take aways:
Ryan Poles and Jaylon Johnson seem to have agreed on a number and will get a deal done. Ryan Poles says “Jaylon isn’t going anywhere”. This comes a day after Jaylon himself said he will get a deal done.

Poles did not commit to Braxton Jones being the franchise LT. He said he is a starter in the NFL, but if they have an opportunity to bring in “Competition” they will.

And of course, the Quarterback position. The talk of the world, right?

Tomorrows newsletter will dive a LOT deeper into this topic, but to keep it light:

-Ryan Poles said a QB would have to “Blow him away” to move off of Fields

-Eberflus and Poles both said you have to adjust to your QBs strengths, implying Luke Getsy did not get the best out of Fields

-Poles said he does not plan on trading the pick, or making a decision until the night of the draft, unlike last year.

-Character and “Having thick skin” Matters for any rookie QB

-Both Flus and Poles sound perfectly fine with Justin being the QB next year. If they draft a rookie, its because they truly believe it will be an upgrade, no doubt in their mind.

So, we are headed into a CRAZY offseason, Bears fans. A lot to look forward to, a lot to be confused about, a lot to wonder, and a LOT of Lies and Rumors we will hear until draft night.

Thanks for Reading, next time, my 2 Cents on what Ryan Poles will do at the QB Position.
